In Chorus this week:
7/8 Chorus: We worked on low TI and high RE in warmups and reviewed our regular DO-DO scale. In rehearsal we got through the first 2 pages of "Hotaru Koi," the first two pages of "The Sleigh," and handed back "Panis Angelicus." We won't be performing that piece in our winter concert this year...maybe in the future!
For a pop number we'll be doing a Glee-style cover of the Mamas and the Papas "Monday, Monday." It should be fun! We also have another song coming your way for the winter concert, a piece for the MLK celebration coming in January, and the Graduation 2012 song has been announced:
"There's a Place for Us," by Carrie Underwood
Yay! Big news.
********************************************************************************
In 6th grade Chorus: We worked on "Beautiful December" and "Shine on Me." Next week we'll start working on "Hotaru Koi," which should be challenging and fun.
In warmups we worked on remembering what DO sounds like, learned the final verse of "I Have a Car," and started the 12345 warmup as well. Next week we'll be working on getting DO-DO correct with different intervals.
Enjoy your day! Stay tuned for more updates in the future.

Chorus 7/8 Report-Week 1!
Welcome back to school! This week was our first week back after a lonnnnng summer-did you sing at all while at camp/on the beach/hanging at home? I know I did!
This week in Chorus 7/8:
**We have a HUGE class-and I actually love it, but I know it's hard because it's crowded. I encourage everyone to spread out on the risers as much as possible and to make TWO rows in front of the risers on the floor. I can move the piano further back if we need more space.
**Please welcome the "new" kids to Chorus who haven't worked with me before-it's hard enough being in a group as large as ours, but they may feel like they have some catching up to do, so reassure them when you have a chance.
**ALTOS: I need more participation from you in your section. Be loud, be proud, and ANSWER questions when I ask. I don't want to call on the same people all year long (although thank you for raising your hand and being willing to answer)!
**SOPRANOS: Stop blocking the door. Seriously-if there's a fire we risk getting stuck in doorways and such. Make rows across the front of the risers so we don't have a huge exit problem.
**Good work on "The Sleigh" this week! We sang through Page 6 only, and next week we'll add page 5 as well. I'm quite happy with the progress we made today!
**FOLDER Check will be next week...will it be Monday, Wednesday, or Friday! Come to class with your folder to find out! ;-)

More Flags, More Fun!
I'll be sending home a reminder for the Six Flags Music Festival next week, but here's the basics for everyone:
Students should arrive at WMS: 9:20am (busses leave @9:30am)
Bring: water bottle (plastic, no glass please!), money for lunch, small bag if necessary (I believe bags are allowed into the park but they are subject to search), cell phone
Optional items: Sunscreen (students can share), a band-aid, sunglasses, iPod (students bring these at their own risk), extra water bottle, snack (nothing messy/spoiling please-a granola bar is a great idea...yogurt, not as much)
Clothing: Students should wear comfortable, school appropriate clothing (mid-thigh length shorts or jean shorts, or anything longer like Bermudas, capris, etc). T-shirts have been ordered and should arrive next week.
Please wear sneakers, for several reasons-
1. There's a lot of walking, especially in the park
2. Many rides require you to take off flip flops/sandals so you don't lose them under the rides-wearing sneakers is more convenient
3. For the past two years at least one person has broken a flip in the park. What if that person is YOU?!
If you choose to wear flipflops to festival, the student does so at his or her own risk.
About "Prizes" You should play games at the park if you wish. However, you are not allowed to bring home anything BIGGER than you are. Big, huge, stuffed animals will not be riding home with us on the bus. Thanks in advance!
Return trip: We will be returning to WMS approximately 8:30pm. Students can call home around 15 minutes before we expect to arrive in case we are late or early (FYI-we've never come home early).
Thanks, and enjoy your day!

Also: We will be finishing up "Bonse Aba" and continuing work on the end of "Loosin Yelav"

A New Idea...Feel Free to Comment
Hey there choristers (singers)!
I had a thought just now and figured I'd put it out there to see what you think-I'd like to use this blog more often, as a connection tool but also as a teaching tool.
What if I put the (general) lesson plan out on Sunday of each week so you can know ahead of time what we're going to be learning in the upcoming week?
What do you think? Here's a sample, for example (ha, rhymes are fun)...
*************

Weds 2-16: Chorus 6. Loosin Yelav refrain, review harmonies, Bonse Aba p. 15

Do you think students would check the blog out if they knew they could get a sneak peek at the upcoming week?
Comment please, I'd like to know your thoughts.
Enjoy your day!
